Good buy and good value. It is a bit daunting to assemble because of cryptic instructions that, amazingly, do not identify the specific nuts and bolts that must be used. This is particularly extraordinary because the hardware comes in a wrap package that could easily identify parts that could be matched with the instructions. Everything works great once assembled, but it does tend to be noisy when used at high speed.

Don't know why anyone would complain about anything concerning this bike. The instructions posed a small problem...but I like solving small problems. Had it up and running in a short time and am now on an everyday schedule. I have no excuse (like weather, etc) for not doing my exercise. If at 70 yrs. old I can do this you can too. I'm 72 yrs. old and my friend and I set it up in less then an hour and a half. Simple, easy directions, even came w/ the necessary tools. Steel constructed. I'm totally impressed with the performance and comfort. It's a wise investment for me as I have back problems and diabetes 2. I did quite a bit of research and am happy I chose the Schwin 240 recumbent bike for a healthier me.

First of all, I needed something that was low impact, so initially, I purchased an elliptical. But then because of my physical balance issues,I was not using it enough to get going on an exercise regimen. Now after just a few weeks I am not only cycling everyday, My balance and confidence is improving. This is a great way to exercise! electronics are very had to program, had to call customer service to even get them started as manual was incorrect. Manual is written very poorly.
Delivery was on time. I was home all day, the box was left at the wrong address, five house down from me. Owner was in the basement and did not come up to see why his dogs were barking for a couple of hours, when he finally figured out who the box was really for and call me it was absolutely soak, could hardly get it into a truck in one piece. The contents were pack very good so the bike was not wet. The bike should have to be signed for or taken back to wearhouse.

the bike was easy to assemble and it takes only one person. All parts were easy to identify. Have had no problems with it. it is a little difficult to program and instructions to do so are not that clear. But you can do manual programs easily.

I use this bike for rehab, joint and muscle strengthening, and weight loss. I'm very happy with it. The seat is just a little bit uncomfortable for me. I use a towel wrapped in a pillowcase to add more cushioning. This bike has more bells and whistles than I need, but I am able to keep track of the numbers that are important to me, i.e., distance, calories burned, and time.
A mechanically-inclined friend put it together in about an hour and a half, with the benefit of some tips provided by a prior reviewer. Overall, I am very pleased with my purchase, and I don't imagine you can do much better in the under-$500-category for this type of equipment.
Ordering through Mercantila was a very positive experience. The customer representative I dealt with was pleasant and helpful. Emails advised me of my order progress every step of the way. The order was filled promptly, shipped expediently, and delivered on time. Delivery was as promised, literally "just inside the door." The box was quite beat up and a little soggy in spots, but fortunately no harm came to the product inside.

I use the bike daily and don't care what type of weather there is outside, because I can ride my bike in any tpye of weather. I have it setting next to a window, so I can see what is going on, as I live on a corner lot. I listen to my radio or CD's and the time goes by guickly. After assembly on initial trial run, the display did not work--displayed all 8's. Inspected the cables and redid all connections and same result. Called Mercantila and they referred me back to Nautilus. Nautilus was great in responding to this warranty issue.
Mecantila was very quick in their shipment and overall condition of box on arrival was good. Was surprised that it was left at the door without a signature required though.
Bike works very good as described by others. I purchased it for knee therapy and am quite happy with it. Despite the delay in getting it working, I highly recommend both Mercantila and the Schwinn 240. I give Mercantila 5 stars and Swinn 4 stars (losing 1 star for the display problem on arrival).

I just got my bike a week ago, but so far everything's great. It takes quite a bit of time to put together (and some of what comes pre-assembled has to be taken apart in order to get everything put together correctly), but once you get into the groove, it goes together without too many problems.
My one nitpick is in the display...it's hard to see unless you're at just the right angle. Also, it would have been great for someone to spellcheck the messaging that scrolls across, as I'm assuming there are problems with it on all bikes, not just mine--just something that drives this English major crazy!

The setup was difficult because the names of the hardware did not match the names on the cardboard that holds the hardware! Also, some of the hardware is all ready placed on the bike frame (the book does not tell you that) - so look at the frame before you panic that you do not have all the hardware!
Having knee and foot pain, this bike is an answer to my exercise program!

I had an earlier version of this bike but had to leave it behind when I moved across country. As soon as I got settled, I ordered another Schwinn. The 240 has some nice upgrades and was about the same price. The bike is not fancy, but it works great and does everything I need. I get a great programmed workout and the recumbent style is easy on my bad back. It is solid, easy to assemble, and can give a workout far beyond my current level.

I have never enjoyed working out. But, I really do enjoy the three times a week 1/2 hour exercise period. Because of the bike's design, it puts no strain on my sensitive back. This bike is really quiet, smooth, stable, and easy to setup and use. The only downer I have is that the backrest is too far back from the seat. I'm 5'5" (an average height for a woman), 140lbs, and it's really uncomfortable for me to sit with my back against the rest. The back rest is not adjustable forward and back, which is a real negative. The seat is molded for where your butt is supposed to be (if you sit further back than the mold, the back of your legs/hamstrings will hit the seat on the downstroke). But when I lean back my back is not flush on the backrest. I actually have a couple towels folded over against the backrest to give me the right seating. I have never had this problem with any of the many exercise bikes I've used in the gym, so it's a rather frustrating thing to deal with. I would only recommend this bike if you've tried it out in the store (to see if it's comfortable for your frame), or if you're maybe 5'8 or taller...

This is a good quality bike. There are numerous programs to choose from and you can also set up a custom program for your work out. However, the instruction booklet is poorly written and therefore difficult to follow. This is a shame because it undermines the otherwise positive impression this product left me with. The only issue I encountered after unboxing the product was a misfit between the two halves of the plastic flywheel molding. The tongue and groove design of the mating surfaces had not been properly engaged during assembly at the manufacturing plant. It took some careful prying with the blade of a screwdriver to make both halves snap in place. I found three more design issues. The first one relates to the legibility of the display panel. Depending on the viewing angle the readout can be almost impossible to see even when reading head on. I was able to cure this problem by adjusting the tilt of the display. In the process however I discovered the cable running inside the main tube for support of the display and handle bars was extremely stiff. As a result, the cable pushes up against the socket in the back of the display and causes undue strain to the soldered ends of the individual wires. This could lead to failure in the long run. I disassembled the tube from its base in an attempt to better accomodate the cable but to no avail. Cable is binding up inside the flywheel housing which cannot be opened. The last issue concerns the seat adjuster. Unfortunately it is hard to operate when sitting on the bike. This is an inconvenience when there are multiple users. You have to get off the bike and reach under the seat for adjustment. Do not forget to tighten the knob because otherwise the seat will wobble when exercising.

As it's been well documented, the set-up was the worst part (besides lifting the box which is not only heavy but very large). I found it easier to place all the parts spread out and matching them against the instructions. As other buyers have commented some parts and a few pieces of harware are pre-installed and this might be the best way to figure out what they are. Once assembled, which by myself took 1.5 hours, the machine was everything promised. Intital programming of the unit was confusing (maybe best done the next day after you get over the set-up). But again once you get the programming done and start using it, I found it to be a great workout. I have been using a Bowflex Treadclimber 3000 3 times a week since last December, but this machine gave me a tougher workout. It is whisper quiet so you can easily watch TV, listen to music and even speak on the phone while working out. Seems well built and seat is wide and comfortable. Highly recommended machine.

Have had for about 6 days and have put 16 miles on the bike so far. The assembly manual leaves a lot to be desired but even saying that it took me less than an hour to assemble. I have used this everyday since it has arrived. It is very quiet, probably one of the most quietest bikes I have ever used, and I have had several. As stated in previous years regarding assembly, it did take my husband approximately 1-1/2-2 hours to assemble. He followed the instructions, however, and had no problems.
The only negative that I can think of is that the metal plates that are near the seat for your heart rate is a little difficult for me to reach as I am fairly petite in height so I would like to see them on the handle bars by the monitor. All-in-all, I am happy with my purchase.
This was my first purchase through Mercantila and I was very impressed with the ease of ordering. (I had spoken with a customer representative in ordering) and she had stated that if I ordered with her that it would be processed faster. I like watching movies and listening to audiobooks, activities that are very sedentary. Now I can exercise while watching my favorite film or listening to a good book. I wish the survey for any product would arrive 6 months later, then I would be able to provide more information on durability and wear & tear. I will be using the bike for cardio purposes. [...]When I unpacked the bike, the magazine rack was half attached and I was lucky the missing screw fell out of the box. The cabinet around the fly wheel was not assembled correctly and after loosening some screws I was able to align the cabinet correctly and put it back together. The order in which the bike is assembled could be better, but keep in mind that engineers create the instructions, but never put one together. The first time I used the bike, I used the guest user program. Loading all the main user program information is a pain and if you loose power or unplug the bike, you will loose all the stored data. The monitor could use a battery backup for memory storage. The next day I was able to load the user info. Riding the bike is wonderful. There's no on/off switch. You start to pedal and the bike comes on automatically. You get off the bike and it shuts off itself in 5 minutes. Select your user, the time, fitness level and your off. The seat is comfortable and you can't hear the bike at all. I am very pleased with the levels of resistance. I am only about a 1/3 up the level chart and the bike gives a great workout. I can't wait to progress to the upper levels. The random display gives you all the feedback you need. I've only used it a couple of weeks and am enjoying it so far.

As I said in my review, the bike did have the magazine rack half attached and the cabinet on the fly wheel was not assembled correctly and was not aligned right.

Not too difficult to set up. The connection of the console mast is tricky for one person to hold while connecting the wires and to not pull the wires out of the pipe. Overall the bike seems stable and sturdy. As with any new equipment it takes a while to learn how to operate it, then it is a "piece of cake."

The bike is really only able to keep track of two exercise profiles. We are a family of 4. I don't know why they could not have expanded the on board computer to take more than 2 user profiles.
My daughter is 6 feet tall and has long legs, her knees hit the computer display because the display pole angles too much toward the seat and is not adjustible.
I would like to see some basic exercise programs in the computer. You can either set a constant level or program a custom profile for each of two users, and that is all. I thought it would be more flexible on the programs in the computer controller.
The frame is very well make and no wobble and very quiet. Hopefully they will fix the problems above which I believe would be easy to address.

This bike is wonderful. It gives me exactly the workout I need. My husband has already given up the stationary bike and has started using the recumbant bike because it is so much more comfortable. My only complaint is that there is nowhere for me to set my book when I read while exercising. Finally, I am enjoying exercising.
My experience with Mercantila Online Store was very impressive. They called me twice to make sure all questions I might have were answered. They were very friendly and helpful on the telephone. Our bike was delivered in a very timely manner and in excellent condition. We had looked at this very same bike at the sporting goods store and they had none in stock. The price was exactly the same as charged by Mercantila. But the best part was that the bike is very heavy and we would have to have it delivered if we had placed an order with the sporting goods store. Delivery would have been an extra $150.00, whereas shipping with Mercantila was free. So that was a huge savings. I would and have already recommended this website to our friends and family.

Not a great assembly guide, but manageable if you take the time to interpret the pictures. One hole in the column piece was stripped, but since there are 4 screws it seems like it will hold up just fine with 3, not worth going through the hassle to return. Assembly time was about 2 hours, but I was not rushing it. Be sure to secure the wiring at the neck of the column before attaching bottom as the wiring might fall into the column (an earlier reviewer mentioned this so I did it & it worked fine). Tools provided are adequate, but you will need a box cutter to get the pieces out of their packaging. Careful when attaching the pedals as the Left on goes on counter-clock-wise and the Right on clock-wise.
Overall we have had this bike for a week now and we all (myself at 6'5", wife at 5'2" & daughter at 5'4") like it. A tad short for me, but not too bad.
The delivery was prompt, eventhough Fedex delivered it to our neighbors. Box was in Very Good condition.

I use the bike for exercise in preparation for hip replacement surgery, and I intend to use it for physical theraphy post hip surgery. I've enjoyed using it. The bike's flexibility, e.g., the multiple exercise levels offer challenges and are excellent for my goals and use.

Several instances where assembly instructions were not clear.In fact some disassembly was required in the process. Also the hardware provided did not conform to assembly instructions. Problems wre resolved with Schwinn in a reasonable time frame.

After a long web search I found this product and I am glad that I bought it. It took about two hours to assemble it,as the assembling instructions are a bit confusing.
I am very happy about my choice. It is smooth and silent. What I like most about it is its seat adjustment and the varieties of choices for workout.
Though I had tried many other recumbent bikes, I feel this is the best choice.
Ordering was very easy and the company has a very good customer friendly network. It is not like PRESS ONE- PRESS TWO- ETC... that irritate a customer!
I did not find anything so far to negative to mention about this product.

I've checked the "easy to set up" but watch for screws, bolts, etc allready in there proper holes on the bike. I was about to call and complain that there was not enough of them to complete the assembly because I was compairing the number that the assembly booklet said that I needed, with the amount that was on the cardboard packets. Then I found them, Dah!! ------- I also state that adjusting is difficult. It's the seat adjustment. You have to back the adjusting screw all the way out. Not really difficult, but there must be a better way.

We use the Schwinn to stay in shape or, to get in shape. The bike is very well built. Putting it together took 1.5 hrs and I found that one step I changed on the instructions probably saved me some time. It was attatching the control panel wires to the neck at the top before connecting the neck to the base, as I read the reviews of others who had a hard time fishing the wires at the bottom and or top once they attatched the neck. The instructions should be changed to reflect this. The instructions were very well done with step by step diagrams.

The manuals for assembly and programming are both rudimentary. I have a master's degree in engineering and still had to puzzle over how to do some of the assembly and programming setup steps. Due to cheap connectors, the console was initially intermittent. Still, now that all those issues are overcome, I find it smooth, quiet, and a good workout. Under heavy use, you can feel the frame flexing a bit; I expect to have to occasionally tighten the bolts, as such flexing in any mechanism tends to make bolts and screws back out. The features are nice; programming provides a lot of capability for customizing, and the heart rate monitor works really well.

I bought this for my wife, after having great luck with a Schwinn Elliptical, which after 3+ years has thousands of miles and still works perfectly. This bike is very quiet, and gives a good impression that it will also last a long time. One caveat - as with the elliptical, the instructions can be cryptic, and sometimes they change the subassemblies without changing the instructions. In two situations (the seat and the handlebars), I had to take them apart to properly assemble things, contrary to the manual. So be careful and deliberate. But once complete, it works perfectly. Only other complaint is the pedals are small, especially for someone with Size 13 feet. But you can pedal in your stocking feet fairly comfortably, if necessary.

[...].Setup was relatively painless; I assembled the bike with no help in less than 90 minutes using only the tools provided (except for drink holder - had to get my screw driver). The assembly instructions need clarification in a few areas, however, with a little studying and logic, all can be figured out.During assembly, I noticed that the visible welds on the bike looked like they were done by a person just learning how to weld. The welds appear strong, but visually not the best looking.The handle on the back of the bike frame was not welded correctly and hand grasp part was separated from the handle bracket. I am waiting for a replacement from Nautilus.Upon using the Schwinn 240, I found the computer not very intuitive at first, and had to thoroughly read the directions and play with it for a few minutes before I could use it. The user interface is not the best. The display also distorts when buttons are pushed.The computer will only store setup and data for two users. Not very good for a family use.The 240 is extremely quiet, almost no noise other than when levels are changed.The seat is comfortable even for longer workouts.I have a problem with the pedals - I cannot wear shoes when I use the bike as my heels hit the crank pedal axle. The pedals need to be spaced out farther, or the crank needs redesigned.The seating is very stable if the adjuster knob is tightened, but then it is very hard to loosen the knob and readjust the seat while sitting on the bike. One must get off the bike to loosen the knob, and then adjust the seat. I find it easier to leave the knob loose and put up with the slight seat wobble.Over all, a good bike, but I sure would like to see an improvement of the pedal/crank so my heels do not hit the crank axle and I can wear shoes when I exercise.

This is an excellent bike except that my heels tend to collide with the hub and pedal spoke. I don't know whether it is the design of the foot grip, my tendency to point my toes out or there needs to be more offset.
Also, I have ridden some bikes that have an easier seat adjustment. Of course this is only a problem if there are several users who want to change the seat position frequently.
There was no instruction booklet in the package, but it is easy to download one, which we did, but we were frustrated for a while there.

I purchased this product because I have arthritis in my feet and found an elliptical or treadmill too stressful. The recumbant is the perfect tool to allow me to get aerobic exercise. I have been an infrequent excerciser, but will be working out more with my bike. It did take me a little over two hours to assemble, but I did it on my own.
The machine is sturdy, quiet and runs smoothly. I like the customization option on the console. I would highly recommend.

The instructions for assembly were very good. They could be improved if the instructions stated that several of the screws and parts are attached to the frame of the bike. I looked everywhere for the other parts [...] Then I discovered they were in the frame. Also, it would be good to indicate in the instructions that the frame that the bike seat sits on needs to be disassembled before the seat can slide onto it.

I use my bike every day , one of the best things I have done for myself. It is very compact ,and easy to use. I am a big guy 6'2" 295 but the bike workes great and is very stable.The assembly was a snap only took 1 hour to complete.

Is a great first machine. I have also tried some of the more expensive machines which are really nice. I can't justify the additional cost tho. They cost 4 or 5 times as much.

I received my 240 Recumbant 2 weeks ago. So far I love it. I'm recovering from
bi-lateral knee surgery so I purchased this bike as part of my recovery program
because recumbant bikes are supposed to be the least strenuous on your knees but
still able to build flexibility and strength.
The bike arrived on time as promised. The packaging is very smart and the
assembly relatively simple. I've read other reviews at sites where people said
it took 3 hours. It took my friend (with a little assistance from me) about one
hour. Only issue we ran into was that some pieces on the frame came
pre-assembled so that we actually had to take them apart first in order to get
other coponents on. This is not consistent with the instructions which assume
the entire product is unassembled and was a bit confusing (perhaps why others
had difficulties). I recommend reading through the entire assembly instructions
first before you begin. Other than that it was pretty easy. One other thing: The
bike is heavy, so you need two people or one strong person to take the frame
portion out of the box when you are assembling.
In terms of the bike, I hopped right on and it feels great. Very stable,
virtually silent..and I mean SILENT...controls are pretty simple to figure out
and the instruction manual is a pretty quick read. I think this is going to be
a great tool to help with my recovery and long term fitness goals. I'm seriously
considering dropping my gym membership and just using this along with some home
weights.

I'm not big with online ordering but this order experience with Mercantila was great. I received the bike when expected,it looked like the picture and is built sturdy.It unpacked well, had it put together in two hours.(good for me). Quiet enough so I don't wake the family in the morning, comfortable so I can read a book. I was looking for a good bike worth the money....this is it!!

One can watch TV or read a book while using the recumbent exercise bike. Makes working out a bit nicer... Glad we bought it to replace a much larger and noiser treadmill.

The delivery was as promised. The bike was packaged well and Fed Ex was nice enough to bring the bike up the elevator and even into my apartment (which is unusual as I understand it). No complaints.
